Designing and Visualizing Your New Space

Construction bids for a new project.

One of the best parts of our jobs here at Elite home Construction is seeing our clients’ dreams become a reality. Each project we work on is unique – tailor-made to suit the needs of our customers and create a one-of-a-kind space they’ll fall in love with.

While every job is different, they all start the same way: by helping our client design their new space. Whether we’re building an entire home or remodeling a single room, the first step in the design process is visualization. How do you want your new space to look? What kind of features and amenities might you need? How do you want the space to make you feel?

Our team helps you answer these questions and create the home of your dreams by following the steps below:

Get inspired.

If you’re ready to begin your construction or remodeling process, chances are you’ve already done some research and gotten an idea of what you want your space to look like. To start creating your basic vision, gather all these ideas together and have them ready to show our team.

For example, if you like a particular architectural style, collect a few links, pictures, or even magazine clippings that we can use as inspiration when designing your new space. If you want to incorporate specific colors, textures, or materials, don’t hesitate to share that with our team. You can even use a program like Adobe Photoshop or Canva to combine some of your ideas into a vision board to ensure they’ll complement each other.

Define your budget.

Carefully combining affordability and practicality is essential. It’s easy to get caught up in what you want versus thinking about what you can afford. Before you get too involved in the design process, consider how much you’re realistically willing and able to spend on your new space. Our team can help you with this process but, depending on your situation, you may also need to consult with your loan officer, mortgage provider, or a financial planner to ensure your project will stay on track financially.

Unfortunately, unless you have an unlimited budget, you’ll probably need to make some compromises here and there. To prepare yourself for that part of the construction process, make two lists: what you want vs. what you need. Your list of needs should include items that are non-negotiable and required in your new space, such as a fridge for a kitchen or a shower for a bathroom. Your list of wants should include things you’d like to have but are willing to compromise on if need be, such as an island for a kitchen or bay windows in a living room.

Consider your family’s current and future lifestyle.

Failure to consider the logistics of your family’s life can result in designing a space that may work for you now but may not suit your needs in the future. For instance, if you are building a new home and are planning on starting a family, you need to put serious thought into how large your family may become. Instead of designing a house with two bedrooms that you may quickly grow out of, it’s best to plan for a larger space that will suit your needs for many years to come.

Or maybe you’re redesigning your kitchen and living room. Do you like to entertain? Do you have guests over frequently? If so, you may want to forgo a dividing wall between those two rooms in favor of an open floor plan that will allow you to seamlessly interact with your guests while attending to your duties as a host. While it’s impossible to thoroughly plan for the future, keeping these things in mind will go a long way toward creating a space that truly works for your family.
